Last night our team gathered at our Primrose Hill studio to celebrate everyone’s hard work, talk about exciting things coming up over the next few months and to take some time for self care ✨

Hands up if you’ve been humbled by a beginner Pilates class? 🙋🏻‍♀️

There is a common misconception that ‘Beginner’ Pilates is easy, but no Pilates level is easy if you’re working correctly.

The beginner work teaches the body and mind to work together on switching key muscle groups on to build strong foundations from the start, and learn that all movement must come from a strong centre, our powerhouse! 💪🏼🔥

Most people move using force and superficial muscles, so slowing everything down making sure you’re switching on those smaller muscle groups makes every Pilates exercise hard, especially beginner exercises which hone in on smaller movement patterns and minimise the chances of muscles ‘cheating’

Going back to the beginner work with an advanced client mindset, will remind you that working with a stronger and deeper connection with smaller range can be harder than any advanced exercise.

Because Pilates done right, what ever level is tough.

So if you’re new to Pilates or a seasoned pro, book that beginner class, its your mindset that will make it hard or not. ☺️

The small barrel shown here which we use in our Tower classes and privates is the perfect antidote to help reverse bad postural habits and help reduce/eliminate chronic aches and pains.

We don’t just squat to get a cute bum 🍑

We also squat to perform everyday tasks like getting up off a chair, getting out of bed and bending down to pick things up!

This is why it’s so important when training those major ‘squatting muscles’ ie Hamstrings, Glutes, Core and Back we fire them up correctly with the correct technique so that over time, imbalances aren’t created which can lead to injury and poor posture.

The Squat shown here using arm springs on the tower forces you to fire up your posterior chain as well as challenge balance.

This can be extra hard for men who are generally very dominant through their chest and quad muscles.

Keep your elbows high (above your shoulders) to force you to use your back as opposed to your chest, and before rising up, activate your heel to glute connection 💪🏼

Move well, feel well and look well for life ✨
