but Joseph Pilates was talking about circulation and internal health a long time ago.

He famously referred to his Matwork as an “internal shower” — designed to stimulate the body from the inside out through breath, movement, and circulation.

Here’s why these exercises work so well:

💯 The Hundred
→ Deep breathing + rhythmic pumping stimulates circulation throughout the body

🏐 Rolling Like a Ball
→ Massages the spine and encourages movement through the body’s systems

🩻 Spine Stretch Forward
→ Expands the back body and supports fuller breath capacity

→ Twisting helps encourage circulation through the torso and digestive system

→ Inversions and leg movement support circulation and flow through the lower body

Mum life has completely thrown my body this week! 😅

A lot more carrying, a lot less training, and a rapidly growing baby permanently on one hip has left me completely out of balance.

Neck pain, a little numbness into my foot, I could feel it all stemming from my lower back and the way I’d been shortening into one side.

I knew I didn’t need to “push harder” I needed to put myself back together.

So I went back to the most precise reset I know… a very gentle classical reformer session.

On the archival @gratz_pilates reformer (less padding, more honesty 😅), the difference was instant. The footbar alone and its low positioning gave my lower back space I didn’t even realise I’d lost, just from lying down and placing my feet was a huge relief.

The shoulder blocks don’t let you cheat, they square your box, organise your body, and bring you back into true alignment.

I worked through the classical intermediate sequence slowly and intentionally, and there’s not a time I’m always reminded of why the combination of classical exercises using classical apparatus is so powerful:

> It works EVERYTHING, every muscle, every inch of you
> It takes your spine through all its natural movements
> It rebuilds stability, (especially through that often-neglected posterior chain)
> And most importantly, it restores balance where life has pulled you out of it

This wasn’t about “smashing a workout” it was about realigning, reconnecting, and giving my body exactly what it needed.

And honestly… I walked out feeling like me again. 🤸🏻

Put back together, from the crown of my head to the tips of my toes. 😊

I felt so good (and pain-free) afterwards that it genuinely energised me to train again with some of the girls…I’ll share that workout later this week 👀

Proof that sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is slow down, get precise, and trust the most incredible method 🙏🏼

Following the popular Teaser post last week with Exhale apprentice Lise — here’s the background on how it actually happened. The cues, the use of another piece of apparatus, and the different intention and feedback Lise was able to experience on how to get there.

It’s important to remember Pilates is a system. Not just isolated exercises; it’s a conversation between the apparatus, your body, and your awareness. If something doesn’t quite land in one place, another will often reveal it.

Lise had never truly felt her Teaser. She could find the shape, but not with that depth of control, connection, and intention we’re looking for.
So instead of pushing harder on the mat, we changed the environment.

Here, Gaby works with Lise on the Spine Corrector — giving the body the space to understand the movement first, before asking more of it.
Space between the vertebrae. Space to articulate down and up. Space to connect.

From there, the focus shifts. Not thinking about the feet. Not just getting into a V-sit. But feeding the legs into the centre, allowing the spine to respond, and moving with intention.

Through that preparation, the journey of the Teaser becomes clearer, more supported, and far less forced.

This is how the system works. One piece supporting and leading into the next.

Because when it clicks in one place… it carries everywhere and your body will thank you for that knowledge.
