Back in the gym 4 months post-partum and still working on my c-curve!

Since getting the green light 6 weeks post c-section to do gentle exercise, the only thing I’ve been doing is very basic Pilates.

Fast forward 8 weeks and I’m so happy to be back in the gym safely lifting weights through the foundational work I’ve been doing. Why? Because it gives my body and brain the stability, strength, and a different type of feedback that Pilates doesn’t always give me.

I’ve also been saying to myself as a daily mantra when tired which is everyday 😄

A little bit of movement every day!

Here’s a snippet of some of the exercises I did to regroup after my first weight session back and to relieve tight legs and a lower back from all the cuddling and carrying of baby Gigi.

1️⃣ Feet & Thigh stretch – Nothing better than to reverse the signs of sitting for long periods of time and tiredness which pulls your energy forward.

2️⃣ Single leg circles – One leg bent so I can move my leg more freely, have stable hips and focus more on massaging my lower back as I circle the leg.

3️⃣ Rolling like a ball – elbows hug waist to get more into the abdominals and heels close to my bum to relieve the lower back. My mid back is still so tight from feeding and holding the baby that my c-curve will be a continual work in progress atm.

4️⃣ Half roll back – used a light kettlebell to give me a stronger oppositional pull to help with improving my spinal articulation especially the mid back.

5️⃣Full roll up (with kettlebell) – focused more on using a deeper breath with the opposition especially on the exhale on the way down which really helps open up the upper and mid back.

I couldn’t do a half roll back 4 weeks ago so this is a gentle reminder to not only myself but to anyone starting, progressing, coming back from pregnancy or an injury.

Lay strong and stable foundations and you’ll progress safely and so much quicker 🙏🏼
